AIS’s Modular Panel PCs with Built-in, Highly Reliable Isolated Ethernet RJ45 and RS 232/422/485 Interfaces and 24V DC Current Supply for HMI, SCADA and MES Applications

HMI Panel PCs with Built-In Isolated Ethernet RJ45 and RS 232/422/485 Interfaces and 24V DC PSIRVINE, CALIFORNIA – March 21, 2016 – American Industrial Systems, Inc. (AIS) an innovator, designer and manufacturer of Human Machine Interface (HMI), HMI Touch Panels, Touch Screens, Displays, Operator Interface Terminals, Industrial PCs, and Industrial Thin Clients, announces their Smart portfolio of Modular HMI Touch Panel PCs and touchscreen interfaces offer isolated Ethernet, serial ports and a DC power supply for reliable communications with industrial control and automation devices. The Premium and Standard series of modular, industrial touch panels include isolated Ethernet RJ45 and RS 232/422/485 interfaces and a 24V DC current supply.

The Premium and Standards series of Industrial HMI Touch Panels are AIS’s most advanced family of PC-based HMIs for control, monitoring and visualization applications. Known for their modularity, flexibility and expandability, the inclusion of isolated Ethernet and serial ports helps ensure reliable and robust communication for data intensive applications commonly found in SCADA, MES and HMI industrial control applications.

AIS’s Intelligent HMIs with Isolated Communications Ports Help Manufacturers and OEMs Achieve Proper Grounding and Isolation for their Control and Automation Systems

Protection from line transients, proper grounding, and isolation are important considerations when implementing a manufacturing control and automation system. With isolated Ethernet and serial communications ports and a 24V DC power supply, AIS’s Premium and Standard, open architecture Touch Panel HMIs provide OEMs and End-User superior protection that minimize premature device and system failures in their control and automation scheme.

AIS’s Premium and Standard Touch Panel HMIs Offer Single-Ended and Differential Data Transmission Options Via RS232/422/485 for Added Communications Flexibility

AIS’s Premium and Standard PC-based Industrial Touch Panels offer serial-based connections which are by far the simplest and most cost-effective solutions available in industrial applications. They can handle fair amounts of data over very short distances and don’t require a lot of expertise or hardware knowledge to complete a configuration or implementation.

Electronic data communications between elements will generally fall into two broad categories: single-ended and differential. RS232 (single-ended) was introduced in 1962 has remained widely used in industrial application. The specification allows for data transmission from one transmitter to one receiver at relatively slow data rates and short distances.

When communicating at high data rates, or over long distances in real world environments, single-ended methods are often inadequate. Differential data transmission (balanced differential signal) offers superior performance in most applications. Differential signals can help nullify the effects of ground shifts and induced noise signals that can appear as common mode voltages on a network. RS422 (differential) was designed for greater distances and higher Baud rates than RS232. RS485 meets the requirements for a truly multi-point communications network, and the standard specifies up to 32 drivers and 32 receivers on a single (2-wire) bus. Also, RS485 drivers are able to withstand "data collisions" (bus contention) problems and bus fault conditions. AIS covers key industrial communications requirements by offering communications for both single ended and differential data transmissions.

AIS’s Delivers Robust Data Communications in Harsh Industrial Environments with an Isolated DC-to-DC Power Supply

A key requirement in industrial HMI control and monitoring applications are reliable data interfaces for inspecting connected automation systems via a diagnostic port. Offering serial communications bus options, AIS’s Premium and Standard Series HMIs achieve robust data communications link in harsh industrial and manufacturing environments. The RS232 diagnostic port provides isolation between the serial cable network and the connected systems to protect against voltage spikes and ground loops within the noisy environment and improve system reliability. Power isolation of the serial bus communication link is obtained by AIS’s modular, Industrial HMIs incorporating an isolated 24V, dc-to-dc power supply.
