D&H Signs All-In-One Digital Signage Vendor

D&H Distributing has signed a deal to offer all-in-one digital signage displays from American Industrial Systems (AIS).

The AIS products allow solution providers to sell digital signage solutions with one SKU. Most signage displays require a separate PC or server, but AIS integrates that technology into a display-ready solution for small and midsize businesses, said Dan Schwab, vice president of marketing at D&H, Harrisburg, Pa.

"Traditionally, airports, hotel chains and major supermarkets are big environments for digital signage. It has migrated to much smaller opportunities, for the sole-proprietor retailers, coffee shops, real estate offices--almost any local business," Schwab said Thursday at D&H's Digital Convergence Expo in Camp Hill, Pa.

"D&H didn't have an all-in one solution. You didn't necessarily have an integrated display tied to the hardware with proprietary software. Now you can buy a SKU and have your solution," Schwab said. "Before, it was a more complex environment. You had to buy a display, and you had to buy a PC- or server-based system and a software platform.

"We think this will go out to hundreds of new VARs," he added. "We are definitely positioning this as a high-margin opportunity. The hardware sale is great, but there are service opportunities it provides for the reseller."

Solution providers at the Digital Convergence Expo said they liked the idea of an all-in-one signage solution.

"We've been dabbling in digital signage, but we've been doing it off a Media Center PC," said Jim Brubaker, president of JK Computing, Blairsville, Pa.

"If I can make money selling the whole thing, why not?" said Lee Rambler, director of custom homes at WeeBee Audio Video, Lancasater, Pa.

The AIS linecard includes 15-inch to 19-inch 1U rackmount KVM consoled LCDs and 15-inch to 19-inch LCD POS touch-screen displays, as well as the all-in-one models, according to D&H. Coming soon will be MediaView and SmartView products that will include wireless capabilities and an integrated PC that can run video, pictures and text simultaneously, the distributor said.
